Bringing valuable experience gained at Ansaldo STS, where he improved the reliability of trains fitted with ERTMS in the UK, Richard aims to further develop Vossloh Kiepe UK’s reputation for integration engineering and rolling stock enhancement and ensure the company takes a leading role in the integration of ETCS technology in legacy fleets across the UK.
Richard’s career started in the British Army as an avionics engineer, before joining Airworks Ltd and then Honeywell Aerospace Systems. Moving across to the rail industry in 2004, he has worked as a warranty engineer at an East London depot and at National Express East Anglia. Employed by Ansaldo STS as a rolling stock engineer based at Machynlleth Depot Wales, he was responsible for the day to day running of the Cambrian Line ERTMS system.
“With ERTMS technology about to be rolled out across the country, I was keen to work with Vossloh Kiepe UK, which is one of the only integrators to have practical experience of installing ETCS technology in the UK,” commented Richard. “Known for its unrivalled engineering expertise in this sector, Vossloh Kiepe UK has an excellent reputation for safety and reliability. That fits well with my skills, as in my last role, I was responsible for improving the reliability of Arriva Trains Wales’ Class 158s fitted with ERTMS from 300 miles to 20,000 miles per failure, in just two years.”
Engineering Director High Parker added: “Richard is highly respected in the industry and is one of the UK’s most experienced ERTMS engineers. We’re sure he will be a tremendous asset to our team and his appointment reinforces our position as the rail industry’s preferred choice for ERTMS integration.”
