Healthy & Safety at Work Policy

Vossloh Kiepe UK Limited is fully committed to maintaining and continually improving Occupational Health and Safety measures to ensure it provides a safe place of work and environment for all its staff, contractors and visitors.

To deliver this policy an integrated management system has been developed which adheres to the requirements of BS OHSAS 18001, the Health and Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and relevant Statutory Regulations as affected by the company’s activities in the design, engineering, project management, and service support of rail vehicles.

 

The main elements of the system are the identification of hazards at each stage of a project from tender, design through to installation and service support.,  In doing so we aim to eliminate or reduce the potential risk from hazards identified by ensuring effective planning, methodology, risk assessment are undertaken which are underpinned by appropriate control measures.

 

The system provides for regular reviews and improvements, but also ensures that there is a strong culture of safety and management of risk throughout the project lifecycle.

 

The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 imposes a statutory duty on employers to ensure in so far is reasonably practicable the health and safety of their employees whilst at work. This duty also extends to others who may be affected by that work.

 

Employees also have a statutory duty to take care of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts or omissions, also to co-operate and comply with company policies , procedures and provisions to ensure their safety and that of others. Also not to interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interest of health and safety.

 

Company personnel will be empowered and required to comply with, not only mandatory adherence to the management system, but the company policy of “Safety First” within the rail Industry.

 

We intend to implement these duties by ensuring that the responsibilities for health and safety matters are effectively assigned, accepted and fulfilled by all individuals in accordance with our formal health and safety processes and procedures.

 

The company will, so far as is reasonably practicable, ensure that:

Adequate resources are provided to ensure that proper provision can be made for health and safety.

Risk assessments are carried out and periodically reviewed.

Systems of work are provided and maintained that are safe and without risks to health.

Arrangements for use, handling, storage, and transport of articles and substances for use at work are safe and without risk to health.

All employees are provided with such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to secure their safety and health at work and the safety of others who may be affected by their actions.

 

The provision and maintenance of all plant, machinery and equipment is safe and without risk to health.

The working environment of all employees is safe and without risks to health and that adequate provision is made with regard to the facilities and arrangements for their welfare at work. The place of work is safe and that there is safe access to and egress from the work place.

Monitoring activities are undertaken to maintain agreed standards.

 

Particular responsibilities are:

 

Health & Safety Director is responsible for implementing this policy and monitoring safety performance.

 

Directors, Line Managers and Site Managers are responsible for all safety, health and welfare matters and implementing control measures to minimise risks to staff under their control.

Health & Safety Officer is responsible for advising on all safety, health and welfare matters for the Birmingham offices and Satellite sites.

All employees are responsible for co-operating and communicating with their Directors, Line Managers and the Health & Safety Officer in all aspects of health and safety to ensure successful implementation of this policy, company procedures and processes.

This Policy and Occupational Health and Safety objectives will be reviewed periodically by senior management to ensure its continued effectiveness and any updates will be communicated to all employees
